It is May and the time of year that most Professional Educators look forward to with joyous anticipation - Summer Break! However, my enjoyment of this time of year has reached a professional "fork in the road" as my present role as a Partnership Resource Teacher has reached its end as my contract through the district is about to expire. Therefore, I will be taking on a new adventure in my career as I shift to my new role as a Reading Resource Teacher at a local school. This brings on many new challenges as the school is classified as a "high-needs school" and will utilize my experience to help guide new teachers, as well as support veteran teachers in creating a positive environment conducive to learning in a "culture shift" spearheaded by administration and the leadership team.
I am looking forward to introducing theory to practice strategies to the faculty and staff at my new school. Additionally, I will be leading several professional development opportunities - leading off with a comprehensive examination of culturally responsive teaching, including book study opportunities for faculty and staff members!
I am sad to leave my colleagues, my teacher leaders, my residents, my partnership schools (especially my students), and my university role (once a Bull, always a Bull). But I find peace with my new venture and am looking forward to the next phase of my profession. Who knows what future doors will open and how future interactions will impact generations of students? I cannot wait to begin...
