So this week my residents began their first (of three) three-week cycle with our Science content coach who is working with the residents to focus their "5-page" lesson planning (5PLP) on the science curriculum. Prior to this week, we (the content coach and I) had discussed the purpose of the lesson plan with the residents and their collaborative teachers, as well as have provided the format and expectations. Each resident was to take their grade-level science curriculum map, have a discussion about the objectives and focus for the week's lessons with their team and/or Professional Learning Community (PLC), and were asked to complete a 5PLP for a single-lesson they will teach. Additionally, the resident was asked to schedule a pre-observation conference with the content coach and myself to discuss their 5PLP and provide us a time to observe their lesson. During the lesson, the content coach and I took anecdotal notes while the resident video-recorded their lesson. At the end of the week, the content coach, the resident, the collaborative teacher (if available), and I met to review the resident's lesson - providing constructive feedback and resources for improvement - as well as listen to the resident's reflection of the lesson. Over this coming weekend, the resident is expected to reflect on their lesson on their web page for the content coach and I to read and comment on together...(and then we start the whole process all over again...).
